Third Edition: Idea-Tec Awards Companies for Their Sustainable Development

  • To enhance the work of companies focused on reducing their carbon footprint, Idea-Tec—a women-founded upcycling company that created technology to produce paints from polystyrene waste—held the third edition of its sustainability awards.
  • The winners were Municipality of Renca, Esmax, Grupo Patio, DAG Management Services, and Open Plaza de Falabella, recognized for their contributions to reducing the carbon footprint of their operations through the use of Idea-Tec’s sustainable paints.

Santiago, February 2024 – Idea-Tec awarded five companies for their contribution to sustainability, meaning their environmental, social, and economic contributions. The winners—Municipality of Renca, Esmax, Grupo Patio, DAG Management Services, and Open Plaza de Falabella—were the organizations that reduced their carbon footprint the most and removed the highest amount of polystyrene waste from circulation during 2023 by using Idea-Tec’s paints. This also reflects their contribution to gender equality, thus supporting environmental care and sustainability.

Cristina Acuña, co-founder of Idea-Tec, explained: “With the third edition of the Idea-Tec Sustainability Awards, we aim to highlight organizations that choose our products and thus align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5, 12, and 13—reducing the carbon footprint and promoting gender equality by selecting suppliers working on these same SDGs. Each of the five companies received a certificate congratulating them for their contribution to sustainability through the use of our products and choice of our brand.”

Acuña added, “Our mission is for all our clients to reduce their carbon footprint easily, quickly, and at low cost, which they achieve simply by choosing Idea-Tec products. For this, each purchase comes with a carbon footprint reduction certificate, which can be used in sustainability reports and annual reports. At Idea-Tec, we have focused all our efforts on using science and innovation to develop technologies that transform hard-to-recycle waste into value-added products, such as our paints and seals. Through this, together with our clients, we have already avoided more than 85 tons of polystyrene waste, which is equivalent to avoiding more than 315 tons of CO2. Today, we are here to recognize those who contributed the most to this goal during 2023.”

Idea-Tec, a Chilean cleantech company that creates sustainable paints to reduce carbon emissions, was born 10 years ago with the aim of creating valuable products from hard-to-recycle materials that are incorporated into the circular economy. It is a pioneer in Chile, creating patented technology that allows for the transformation of polystyrene waste into raw materials for producing sustainable paints and seals for walls, floors, metals, markings, wood, and now zinc. Idea-Tec’s products contribute to the reduction of their clients’ carbon footprint by between 10 and 21.6 kgCO2 per 5-gallon bucket, which is equivalent to the CO2 emitted by an average car traveling between 48 and 117 km. Additionally, it helps prevent polystyrene waste from ending up in landfills, dumps, or the sea.

Idea-Tec envisions that through science and innovation, they will be pioneers in developing technologies to transform waste into value-added products that will be incorporated into the circular economy on a massive scale, ensuring that no waste will remain.

Finally, we want to congratulate the organizations awarded this time and hope that next year we will continue to add more and more recognitions in favor of our environment and society.
